1. Paper making filed
PAM is widely used in paper making industry as resident agent, filter aid agent and so on. It can
improve the quality of the paper and the dewatering effect of pulp, increase the retention rate of fine fibers and fillers and reduce the consumption of raw material and environmental pollution. The effect of PAM used in paper making depends on its average molecular weight, ionic nature, ionic strength, and the activity of other copolymers. Nonionic PAM is mainly used to improve the filter function of pulp, increase dry paper strength, and improve the retention rate of fiber and filler. Anionic copolymer is mainly used as reinforcing agent and resident agent of the dry and wet of paper. Cationic copolymer is mainly used for papermaking wastewater treatment and aiding filter. Apart from that, it also has a good effect on improving filler retention rate. In addition , PAM is also used in papermaking wastewater treatment and fiber recovery .
2. Textile industry
In textile industry, PAM, as after treatment sizing agent and finishing agent, can generate supple, wrinkle-free, mold-resistant protective layer. Taking advantage of its hygroscopic characteristic, it can reduce the breakage rate of spinning yarn. PAM, acting as after treatment agent, can prevent static electricity and improve flame retardant property. When used as auxiliaries , PAM can improve the adhesion rate and the brightness of the product. It can also can be used as bleaching non-silicone polymer stabilizer. Besides, PAM can also be used for the purification of textile printing and dyeing wastewater .
3. Other fields
In mining and coal washing industry, the application of PAM as flocculant can increase the settling solids during coal washing water recycling process and improve water clarification while at the same time recycle useful solid particles to avoid environmental pollution.
In sugar industry, PAM can speed up the sinking rate of fine particles in the juice to promote filtering and improve the clarity of filtrate.
In the breeding industry, PAM can improve water quality, increase water transmission performance and thereby improving the photosynthesis of water.
In the pharmaceutical industry, PAM can be used as flocculants for the separation of antibiotics.
In the building materials industry, PAM can be used as paint thickener dispersant, sawing stone plate coolant and ceramic adhesive agent.
In agriculture industry, polyacrylamide, as superabsorbents, can be used as soil humectant and seed culture agent.
In the construction industry , PAM can enhance the hardness of gypsum cement, accelerate dehydration speed of asbestos cement. In addition, PAM also be used as the protective layer of natural or synthetic leather and as granulation additives of inorganic fertilizer.
